Supporting Disabled and Paralympic Athletes
As many of you have very generously supported our Charity over the last few years, I wanted to tell you that one of our supported athletes, Charlotte Moore, has been selected for the Ladies Wheelchair Basketball Team taking part in the Rio Paralympics being held between 7 – 18 September. As you can imagine, we are all delighted by this news and very proud to be associated with Charlotte.
As well as the excitement of being selected for the Paralympics, Charlotte becomes of age whilst in Rio and celebrates her 18th birthday on 13 September.
We couldn’t let this event pass by, so on our way up to Scotland recently, Jean and I called in to see Charlotte and her lovely family and gave her a gift which a number of our dear friends contributed to. As it would be too risky to take anything of value to Rio, Charlotte asked if she could open the present whilst Jean and I were there, and I attach a couple of lovely pictures of Charlotte with a Links of London necklace and chain – with a heart on each – which she wore that evening when she went out for dinner with family and friends. Charlotte was absolutely thrilled with the gift and her sister told us that she had always wanted some Links of London jewellery.
I am pleased to say that Channel 4 are covering the Paralympics – they did a great job 4 years ago – so we are hoping that they will feature the Ladies Wheelchair Basketball at some stage.
Unfortunately, the Basketball Team have their first game during the early morning of 8 September, so the Team will not be able to attend the opening ceremony.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support which, as you can see, really makes a difference.
John Slate, Trustee.
